Most of the people love pigeons and are enthralled by their ability to fly and admire the many sizes, shapes and colors they come in. But some of their species, especially feral pigeons also referred to as "flying rats" or "rats with wings"; bring trouble when they take up residence in or on structures used by humans. This is largely because pigeons carry the same number of germs and viruses that rats do but also because they tend to settle in one area and prove to be almost impossible to get rid of pigeon via conventional means. Pigeons are responsible for the spread of several parasites and pathogens harmful to people. There's also the health risk of bacteria, fungi and parasites that live and grow in their droppings, which can carry and transmit any of 60 known diseases. Even the fleas, mites and ticks that bury themselves in pigeons can carry a number of diseases. Among them are diseases such as Salmonella, Histoplasmosis, encephalitis, toxoplasmosis, Cryptococcosis and Psittacosis, and to name a few. A pigeon dropping not only gives off smell but can cause diseases related to respiratory system and skin.</div>

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
In addition, Pigeon feces are unsightly, corrosive and responsible for millions of dollars in structural damage every year. Pigeons spread disease through their feces and harbor disease-carrying parasites on their bodies and in their nests that can migrate into homes. They will readily take up residence in any structure they see as conducive to nest building and raising a brood. It is their habit of nesting and living near humans that makes pigeons such a dangerous menace. Pigeons prefer to feed on grain but will substitute their diet with garbage, insects and many other food items. Pigeons are long-lived animals, some up to 15 years. Pigeons breed all year, peaking in spring and fall and a single pair can have several broods per year. Pigeons mate for life and spend most of their lives in close proximity to their nesting site. Each clutch consists of two eggs with the next clutch being laid before the previous young leave the nest. The net result of longevity and good reproduction is a lot of pigeons. Since they are social birds, the smell of feces attracts other pigeons. Dust from the accumulated pigeon droppings carries fungal spores that can cause Histoplasmosis, a sometimes fatal respiratory disease. In addition, pigeons around airports can be a hazard to airborne planes.</div>

<strong>Water and Honey in Racing Pigeon Feed</strong></h3>
<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
There is honey... and more honey.</div>
<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
First of all, we have the ordinary imported honey, which in our country, is mixed with sugar. Then, we have the pure bee-honey which we can get from bee-keepers. Years ago, it was easier to get honey from the bee-keepers than it is to-day. Of late, the number of bee-keepers has declined tremendously. Today, men no longer care to look after the hives, where they have to work daily wearing a mask and heavy gloves!</div>
<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Actually, we prefer the honey which we obtain from a bee-keeper. In this case, we consider honey a cure, containing excellent qualities. Honey is especially good for improving the breathing, and for the nervous system. It aids digestion, and is a nutriment for people with stomach troubles. Persons who suffer from rheumatism and gout should use honey. The antacid it contains is an excellent source for healing. Honey is free of microbes and contains all the vitamins, which the bees gather together with the pollen of the flowers. Honey does wonders for colds, sore throat, enteritis and the flu - it is not just useful as racing pigeon feed! It is a natural food - healthful, energy-giving, and healing. Not only is it good for children, but also for adults; prevention is better than cure, and with this saying, honey certainly plays an important role.</div>
<div class="mobile-ad-container" style="height: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; position: relative; width: 892px;">
<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-3754405753000444" data-ad-format="horizontal" data-ad-slot="4795413898" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: block; height: 50px;"><ins id="aswift_3_expand" style="background-color: transparent; border: none; display: inline-table; height: 50px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; visibility: visible; width: 352px;"><ins id="aswift_3_anchor" style="background-color: transparent; border: none; display: block; height: 50px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; visibility: visible; width: 352px;"><iframe allowfullscreen="true" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="50" hspace="0" id="aswift_3" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" name="aswift_3" scrolling="no" style="left: 0px; position: absolute; top: 0px;" vspace="0" width="352"></iframe></ins></ins></ins></div>
<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Being good for humans, it must also be good for pigeons, and we advise all fanciers to give it to their birds as part of their racing pigeon feed, because we ourselves do well with its use. We use it all year round, one teaspoonful in a quart of water. Dissolve the honey first, in a glass of water. Never pour hot water on honey, since this may ruin the vitamins and may also cause fermentation. After a long, hard race, our widowers get all they want to drink of this... one tablespoonful in 500 cc. of water. At least two days a week, and two days before basketing, the honey brew should be in all pigeon lofts. As the well known saying goes: "Try it... you might like it!"</div>
<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Water and Sugar in Racing Pigeon Feed</div>
<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Every fancier who wishes to keep up with the modern advances in racing pigeon feed, will make use of glucose-sugar. Glucose - the food for the muscles before the season and after the race, helps the birds to recuperate faster. If the birds are basketed on Friday, then on Wednesday and Thursday add 2 teaspoons full of glucose-sugar to each quart of drinking water. On their return from the race, for one day, add two or three teaspoons full of glucose-sugar to each quart of their drinking water every time your racing pigeons feed. On the next day, clean the drinkers and serve fresh water. When we use tea, after it has cooled off, you may add some glucose-sugar to it.</div>

<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Some fanciers use sugar cubes (6 to a quart of water), or crystal sugar, using one tablespoonful to a quart of water.</div>
<div style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
We prefer glucose as part of their racing pigeon feed because it is easier to use, and with us, it has given the best results.</div>
